Awsome little restaurant
It will be sad to see Casey's closed.
I think that it is a case of his establishment not fitting with the new focus of South Division.
It also seems that the land owner/lord (Dwelling Place) should hold some responsibility to the safety of Casey's patrons as well as Casey himself.
The GR Press said that the "DP" manager said the closing was due to "drug traffic in the area" how can casey dictate who and what goes on out on the sidewalk???? let alone what goes on inside the Herkimer Hotel or Dwelling Place. This writer knows without a doubt tenents are involved in drug and prostitution trafficing and who knows what else.
If one person (Casey) were to try and be vigilent towards the ongoings outside his restaurant one must consider taking into account personal Safety.
Who doesn't know about the past/present reputation of S. Division. Making one "token"
Closing will not change anything.
I challange everyone to make an effort in collecting all the facts, making an educated opinion, and present it to the media and the landlord to keep a fixture that has been around for quite some time. (they first took his restaurant from him to build an arena)

Casey's Restaurant
If you came from a small town or a city with a strong neighborhood structure, you have probably hung out at a place like Casey's. If the owner saw you often enough, he would come over and chat for a moment. The waitresses all knew what your 'usual' was and just how you liked it.

One thing that distinguishes Casey's Restaurant from most other restaurants in Grand Rapids is the owner's mad community breakfasts. The owner networks with community volunteers and doners to offer a free, all-you-can-eat breakfast a couple of times per year. Usually on Thanksgiving as well as the other couple of times.

Stop by Casey's, support this generous business, say Hi to your neighbors and tell the waitresses Leslie, Sandy and Jana that
